How it sucks

1) Often, even when my iPod is fully mounted on the unit, the sound won't come on, although you can see on the iPod screen that the iPod is playing, unless you jiggle the iPod a bit. 2) The remote signal is incredibly weak; I have to hold the remote within a foot of the unit for it to work, and the remote must be focused on the sensor for it to work. I've found the remote to be useless, basically, and that's a disappointment as it was a selling point of the unit for me.

I still find that I wake up in the night and feel around for the remote so I can turn the system off. If you are looking to use the system in the daytime (or at least when the lights are on), it will probably work very well for you, whether you're using the radio, listening to your iPod, or using external input. You may still find the remote very disappointing for your iPod, though, as it operates only limited functions (pause, stop, play, advance, or previous; there's no option to navigate menus, change playlist, etc).

I bought this system for 80.00 and could not get it to work right off the bat! The docking system is messed up and I have read several reviews from customers who have the same problem. My I-Pod does not work unless you pull it forward on the dock itself or I finally got frustrated with it and figured out what I could squeeze behind it to make the I-Pod push forward on the dock to make the connection.

They said they've even had the plug on the dock break completely off. They said Altec Lansing will send me a new one because there's a one-year warranty and they know it's a recurring problem. But I am probably going to return it and get something different since it appears likely it will happen again.

This device shines in a sea of mediocre iPod speakers and with such awful competition anyone can win, however it has a major problem, if you raise the volume slightly above 50% the Altec Lansing will start distorting your music pretty badly. It is also missing a headphone jack for nightime listening next to your partner while he/she sleeps. The Altec Lansing iPod Speaker is certanly not worth more than $50 bucks, wait until the price comes down then buy it.

I'm giving it four stars because the first two I purchased were defective and had to be exchanged. In the first unit, the battery wouldn't charge up. In the second unit, the speakers wouldn't work.

My only dissappointment in the system over all is the fact that there are only 4 radio presets on the remote, no mute control on the system or remote and the fact that most of the remote controls are not available on the system - like the presets, etc. I also wish it came with a 3.5mm cord, I know my other Altec Lansing system for the Sandisk sansa came with one. Other than that this is system is awesome and good deal, I would be willing to pay up to $200 for it, if I had to.

I went through 4....yes 4 purchases of the Logitech mm50 Portable Speakers...and returned them all for the same issue...the rechargeable battery system would not hold a charge. If you are going to always have the speakers plugged into an outlet then either will do...but if you want to true portability...then Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 is the ONLY way to go.

You can't receive calls or texts, but you don't get any speaker interference. If you want to be able to take calls, you'll get some speaker interference occasionally, but it's not too terrible.

Becareful when you setup the thing, once you fit the Ipod holder into the slot, it's nearly impossible to try to take it out. So if you mistakenly put the wrong one in, literally have to return it to exchange it for a new one.

For the last several months, I've been listening to the iM600 in the living room and notice the following: First, the radio function renders inferior reception so that I never use it. Second, the volume has to get cranked up loudly to appreciate the sound. At lower levels, the sound isn't very impressive as it lacks warmth and separation.

Unfortunately, that only solves half of my goals. It essentially fails at the first goal, which is the ability to wake up to NPR. The device only functions as an alarm clock when you set the iPod specifically for that (meaning that you can wake up only to the iPod).

Cons: -at really, really high levels there is slight static -remote doesn't really work, unless you are STRAIGHT ON to the unit (annoying but not a big deal to me)

Finally: It plays music from my iPod 80GB (6th Generation), the unit's controls do work with this iPod, the remote control works fine and the data connection works. BUT the video out feature does not work with my iPod. I am dissapointed.

Have I mentioned that it's loud? For me, my first test with a product like this is to see if I can crank it pretty loud and not have it sound tinny or static-ey.

I bought this product after about a month of reviewing. I chose about 10 different iPod compatible stereos that would meet my needs, then reviewed all the pros and cons in both the "product descriptions," but mainly in the "customer reviews."

The product seems durable, produces good sound with a wide volume range, accommodates different size iPods with a nice set of plastic inserts, that are not cheesy but snap into the unit in a way that makes them seem integrated as original equipment. My iPod happens to be a nano, it is works well with the unit.

Of course, if you want to carry it constantly with you, you need to carry the power adapter (no, it's not just a power cord) and you may need to carry a couple of cables. While carrying it, you will want to keep the power adapter separate from the unit, so as not to scrath the plastic. A travel case would certainly help...

So, I went to Target to look at the display. Since the display unit was on a top shelf and was affixed, it was very difficult to get a feel for how it would sound on my nightstand and what the remote looked like. However, it did give me a good idea of what the overall unit looked and sounded like.

The iPod only rests on it, and any mechanical shock might cause problems. You need to be extremely careful with that. (This is the only reason I've given it 4 stars, not 5)

How it doesn't

These speakers made a perfect home for my iPod Nano. Even in a Belkin clear plastic case I can dock my Nano. The setup is easy, sound is crystal clear and can fill a large room easily.

Whereas my prior radio had iffy reception on some stations with the antenna extended, this one gets a strong signal everywhere without having to extend the antenna. It easily and beautifully streams music (via auxiliary input) and allows for much greater enjoyment of my iTunes library and selected streaming stations. I've caught myself singing and dancing more since adding this device.

Other than that, I'm very happy with it! It's got a great sound (even when playing the radio) and I can dock my 80gb iPod with the case on which I love since I'm usually rushing in the morning. That way, I can just grab it off the dock without having to put the case back on.

The IM600 has a great footprint for the kitchen, sound is fantastic, FM radio reception is great, and the iPod fits perfectly - I'm very very happy with this purchase.

However, it'a a little larger than I pictured and probably not the best for the kind of traveling he does (he's in tents, not hotels). He's happy to have it, anyway. It would be great for hotel traveling or of course visiting friends and family.

I'm able to enjoy Electro House, Hip Hop, and Trance music at a strong volume with a properly adjusted equalizer. This is the best portable system I've ever owned. The built in battery is great (it lasts for weeks in my backpack), and the size and weight (it's incredibly light) make it perfectly portable.

After reading some reviews on various websites, I found the inMotion iM600 !! Much to my disbelief, this thing is awesome! It has excellent sound quality, especially if the "SFX" feature is turned on.

fantastic product, great sound, small footprint, didn't have to spend an arm and a leg. intuitive to use (important for late adopter like me), very satisfying replacement of bulky stereo system (recently converted from CD/album collection to ipod plus this system). Love the rechargeable battery.

My iPod Touch docks perfectly and I can even sync my iTunes from my PC to the Touch via the dock. Overall I am way more than satisfied with this unit and would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a great portable sound dock that won't break the bank.

He quickly called to say, "Thank you SO much for the docking station!!! I use it every day--it's awesome!" The compact size, easy portability and the amazing speaker quality are the major plusses from my (albeit limited...) perspective!

I am very pleased with the iM600. It has an excellent sound. My ipod docks fine in the holder.

I love this thing! I can't believe the difference between this and the other systems I looked at in the stores. This is an excellent value--- You get a LOT of bang for your buck!

It's so compact that I had my doubts about how good the sound quality would be. Well, it sounds great and she LOVES it! There's a full spectrum of sound, plenty of base, and there's even a remote.

I love being able to charge the battery in the speaker and then just move it from room to room as I go. I also like being able to charge my Ipod while it is plugged in. I am highly pleased with the sound thru the speakers.

The Lansing iM600 is fantastic. It sounds great, plays your iPod and has an FM radio built in, no FM in the Bose. The iM600 comes with a rechargeable battery and a remote control which controlls the radio and simple actions of the iPod.

This piece of perfect pleasure fits comfortably on a tiny shelf in the bathroom. Takes up little space on my kitchen island. Ideal in the living for weekend house cleaning marathons.

She said it is "stellar" (another word for awesome)!! The sound is incredible and the product is very lightweight for easy portability. I highly recommend this product :)

Have listened to U2, Bebo & Cigala, Led Zeppelin and, now, the Chairman of the Board. I can't think of a better value in electronics right now than this audio system. The mids are great, the highs clear.

Being used to the Bose sound this is the first runner-up without the price. You can use a battery and/or plug it in! It is perfect for the person who has little space but craves BIG sound!!!

The portability is what makes this thing great. The Wife listens to her music in any room of the house, and I can listen to my Podcasts without having to wear those annoying Earbuds. Sound quality is excellent.
