I bought this system for 80.00 and could not get it to work right off the bat! The docking system is messed up and I have read several reviews from customers who have the same problem. My I-Pod does not work unless you pull it forward on the dock itself or I finally got frustrated with it and figured out what I could squeeze behind it to make the I-Pod push forward on the dock to make the connection.

They said they've even had the plug on the dock break completely off. They said Altec Lansing will send me a new one because there's a one-year warranty and they know it's a recurring problem. But I am probably going to return it and get something different since it appears likely it will happen again.

This device shines in a sea of mediocre iPod speakers and with such awful competition anyone can win, however it has a major problem, if you raise the volume slightly above 50% the Altec Lansing will start distorting your music pretty badly. It is also missing a headphone jack for nightime listening next to your partner while he/she sleeps. The Altec Lansing iPod Speaker is certanly not worth more than $50 bucks, wait until the price comes down then buy it.

I went through 4....yes 4 purchases of the Logitech mm50 Portable Speakers...and returned them all for the same issue...the rechargeable battery system would not hold a charge. If you are going to always have the speakers plugged into an outlet then either will do...but if you want to true portability...then Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 is the ONLY way to go.

You can't receive calls or texts, but you don't get any speaker interference. If you want to be able to take calls, you'll get some speaker interference occasionally, but it's not too terrible.

Becareful when you setup the thing, once you fit the Ipod holder into the slot, it's nearly impossible to try to take it out. So if you mistakenly put the wrong one in, literally have to return it to exchange it for a new one.

Unfortunately, that only solves half of my goals. It essentially fails at the first goal, which is the ability to wake up to NPR. The device only functions as an alarm clock when you set the iPod specifically for that (meaning that you can wake up only to the iPod).

Cons: -at really, really high levels there is slight static -remote doesn't really work, unless you are STRAIGHT ON to the unit (annoying but not a big deal to me)

Finally: It plays music from my iPod 80GB (6th Generation), the unit's controls do work with this iPod, the remote control works fine and the data connection works. BUT the video out feature does not work with my iPod. I am dissapointed.

My iPod happens to be a nano, it is works well with the unit.

Of course, if you want to carry it constantly with you, you need to carry the power adapter (no, it's not just a power cord) and you may need to carry a couple of cables. While carrying it, you will want to keep the power adapter separate from the unit, so as not to scrath the plastic. A travel case would certainly help...

I'm GLAD I took my Ipod with me because I was disappointed! These speakers are loud but very distorted and muffled once you crank them up to higher volumes. (found this out when I had to compete for sound w/ a 15yr old who was trying to drown me out...

Bonus - I didn't buy it for the cordless power option, but that has turned out to be very handy for moving the unit to any spot in the house when the kitchen gets too noisy. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a carrying case. The smooth black plastic does get scratched easily (like iPods do), but for me that's not too big of a deal.

The only thing that doesn't work with the shuffle is the remote. That is a bummer. But I doubt if the shuffle will work differently with another unit.

Fine - but the two screws are not visible at all! Nor is there any indication on diagrams of the unit indicating where to find them. If you want a unit with great sound, looks and portability, and are willing to live without a good remote function, this is the unit for you.

Aside from the obvious wasting of energy, it poses a much greater problem for me in that mode: it's simply far too bright. There are no brightness adjustments at all, either manual or automatic. I had to find items to cover up the bright blue lights, and that can then make it hard for the remote to work.

It doesn't pick up weaker stations very well. But since 90% of the reason I bought it was to broadcast from my iPod, that is not such a big loss. I would have given it a "5" had the radio been better.

And, I had not realized this when I ordered, but the Altec-Lansing unit is portable. My expectations about the radio, about its sensitivity & discrimination with respect to weaker stations, was not high. Because most radios I have purchased for use at home suffer from difficulties in that area (sometimes influenced by such things as sunspot activity or the nearby airport's radar/radio waves).

Quality is good even at loud volume. Infact, it seems that the more I use it, the sound keeps getting better. The only bad part is the cradle for keeping the ipod, which does not "hold" the ipod properly.

When you turn up the volume with anything that has bass, the unit's small speakers fall apart. The unit is good - but it is for accent music only. The sub woofer out may correct the situation - if you purchase that separate unit.

I'd like to buy a spare battery for use at an all-day upcoming event, but NOWHERE on the unit do I find any indication of where the battery is located.

battery life is close to 20 hours, and your aided by a battery meter in the display. The unit is ultra portable not just by being small but by getting smaller with a fold away base and antenna.

Input (cable not included). Add to that the rechargeable battery (that lasts up to seven hours) and you have yourself a replacement for your old cd-boombox to take to poolside or just outside.

I would say the bass response is a bit less than advertised but still adequate. You can help bass response substantially by placing the unit against a wall, or better yet, in a corner. Even though an ad for a subwoofer is inserted into the packaging, according to Altec Lansing, that unit is no longer available.

I'm not saying these speakers are bad but if you want more bass and clarity don't get them. What I ended up purchasing was the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere speakers.

One issue I have found is the SFX mode offers stereo separation and on most recordings it sounds great - I have found that on at least one recording, the 's' sound comes out of the left side and the other vocals come out of the right - this is a little strange and I have only found this to be a problem with one of my recorded albums - it may be something I try to rip again to see if the problem persists on this particular recording. My complaint with this unit is it follows the iPod trend to make the surfaces shiny black which also makes it susceptible to scratches - my wish is that they get away from this trend (including iPod) and AL should provide some sort of carrying/protective case as this is advertised as a portable unit. If you don't want to spend a bunch of money and you are looking for good sound, this is your unit.

I reviewed and tried out numerous iPod speaker systems prior to buying the iM600 and found that, for the money, this is a really good system. Two things would make it perfect for me - if it had a clock as I use it in the morning when I'm getting ready for work and if it had a carrying case to take on trips with me.
