How it sucks
click term for excerpts - most relevant excerpts first12 months ago @ AmazonFeatures I miss: Bluetooth capability (available with Nuvi 760 but I did not think it was necessary at purchase of this unit); No provision for tunnel exits (it should indicate the name of the exit and the distance to travel when the car enters a lengthy tunnel and the car is to get out of one of the intermediate exits other than the end of the tunnel). Unavoidable: Inaccuracy near skyscrapers or under overhangs of freeways. Needless to say that the unit does not work inside buildings or underground although you may wish it would navigate you even in those circumstances since it is a portable device.
11 months ago @ AmazonFM transmitter is useless - don't waste your time unless you want static and to readjust every 5 minutes. 3. Internal speaker is tinny sounding and even with volume at 100% I had trouble hearing the directions at highway speed.
10 months ago @ AmazonI followed this advice, let my nuvi charge for 4 hours via a USB cable connected to a PC, but the unit still refused to power on. In the end, Garmin's support suggested that I return the unit to the place of purchase for an exchange. Now...as bad as all of the above sounds, I think that I just happened to get a bad unit.
10 months ago @ AmazonI bought this product because Amazon said in its description that, "All of the 700-series navigators also feature a rich array of features including ...integrated traffic receivers..." This isn't true and is greatly misleading to the buyer. When I downloaded the operating manual from Garmin, I found that I would have to buy a receiver from Garmin for $145.00 to get traffic information. This lack of an expected major feature has caused me to be very disappointed in the product and even more so with Amazon.
12 months ago @ AmazonI contacted Garmin regarding the slow acquisition time at which point they directed me to perform a master reset. That did not help. After another week or two I obtained an RMA from Garmin and returned the unit.
11 months ago @ AmazonThe MP3 player is no iPod but it is usable - while it only recognizes MP3 files, it is easy to make playlists on the computer and transfer it to the Nuvi. A feature that I like is that the Nuvi will actually pause the music while announcing, not merely mute it. I have not tried the FM transmitter yet and probably won't, I suspect it will work as poorly as the rest where we live.
10 months ago @ AmazonPOI Loader reported success, but all those (13,000+) nice custom POIs were nowhere to be found (they were supposed to be under Extras). I figure a part of the problem might have been the format of the POI files I used (despite them being uploaded "successsfully"), but I cannot say more about this since I was not able to test my freshly-created POI file due to nuvi's failure to power on. Apart from the above, I was quite happy with the unit until it refused to work altogether.
9 months ago @ AmazonEven though only a week old, the software on my unit was two releases back and the upgrade to v2.60 happened quickly and without incident. This is the software that runs the unit, and is not the maps themselves, which are current until the next update expected in the summer. Summary: does all I want and much more that I will likely never use (MP3 player, photo viewer).
12 months ago @ Amazon- poor satellite reception, had to reset almost everytime it is turn off, sometimes had to reset several times - touch screen map scrolling not very sensitive, have to press and drag really hard - no prompt keep straight, i took a wrong split several times
9 months ago @ Amazon1. The unit saves tracklogs, but I've been unable to download them. The standard answer from both internet groups and Garmin tech support is to use Mapsource, but the unit doesn't come with Mapsource (the data is preloaded).
12 months ago @ AmazonI was very excited about this series(700s) for getting rid of the flip up antenna. I had very high hopes but was very disappointed. Pros:
12 months ago @ Amazon- no prompt to indicate if i have to make a turn, magellan has this feature and it was very helpful - no prompt to indicate if i made the correct turn, mapopolis had this and it was very helpful - poor orientation, it does not know which direction i am facing most of the time
10 months ago @ AmazonIn the morning I expected the unit to be ready, but found out that it would not power on at all. Not if turned on with the power button, not if connected to a power charger in the car, nor if connected to a computer via a USB cable. Called Garmin's tech support, which was easily accessible (I was glad about this aspect of my experience).
9 months ago @ AmazonMy Magellan RoadMate 700 completely died after 2-1/2 years, two costly map updates, and one very costly out-of-warranty factory repair.
12 months ago @ AmazonSome people said that some 7xx units have sirf and some do not. I saw tips on how to find out what my unit has, but I couldn't get the instructions to work for me. I have no idea whether I have sirf or not, but it's working great so far (depending on where it's mounted).
11 months ago @ AmazonIt seems to me the processor is slow as it takes a number of seconds to make changes in route. It doesn't provide the most direct or fastest route. The screen "rewrites" in different resolutions as you approach a congested area or change in route; this can be confusing if you are not directly looking at it.
13 months ago @ AmazonI disliked the screen locking and power-up mechanism where I had to agree with the legal policy every time I turned it ON! The points of interests are not very accurate and its map is not quite up to date. It doesn't have the Monroe, Louisiana new streets details but then, Google too, doesn't have them!
11 months ago @ AmazonIf you are a first-time GPS buyer, you can't go wrong with this one. If you are a repeat buyer, you likely won't be disappointed either.
9 months ago @ AmazonYou can't, for example, upload selected destinations from Outlook; there is, however, a points-of-interest loader (free download) that might help though I've not yet tried it. (3) the routings I chose to use are those generated in "fastest" mode. They are not always the fastest routing and lean very heavily on Interstate roads even when the extra mileage takes longer in time than a non-Interstate route.
9 months ago @ AmazonAlthough the 760 comes with 3 months of free traffic, it's $60/yr after that. I was not interested in bluetooth, after reading the poor reviews, so it was really a matter of traffic or no traffic.
How it doesn't
click term for excerpts - most relevant excerpts first10 months ago @ AmazonI just got a job as a driver for a local pizza place(Cincinnati) and after MUCH research bought the nuvi 750. After checking Consumer Reports, CNET and the automotive department at Circuit City, they all recommended the nuvi 660. I needed the multi-point routes for delivery and I didn't need the bluetooth so much so I opted for the 750.
9 months ago @ AmazonI would like all to note though- that I use an ouside antenna on my van. This magnetic soda bottle cap sized gadget is almost mandatory. I can put my GPS anywhere in the car I want and still receive superb performance becausee I'm always looking at all of the satellites.
9 months ago @ AmazonIt performs just as well as most of the FM transmitters I have used in the past for Ipods and portable media players. I would highly recommend the Nuvi 750 to friends and family. Also, be aware that the nuvi 750 DOES NOT come with Bluetooth functionality as the product title implies.
9 months ago @ AmazonI find, since I already have an ipod, I could live without the mp3 capabilities, picture viewing, etc. I don't live in a congested enough area to need to traffic features but I'm glad they are there if I ever do. Its a great unit and I got a great price at amazon...way below the big box stores!
12 months ago @ AmazonHaving used and owned several GPS systems over the past 10 years or so, the Garmin 750 is the easiest to use, the easiest to view, and the best full featured package of any I've had experience with. (includes Magellan, Tom Tom, & Delorme. A few if the metropolitan routes it calculates tend to prefer surface streets instead of Interstate or Freeway highways, though.
12 months ago @ AmazonSo far the nuvi 750 has been performing very well. It took about 45 seconds to get enough satellites the first time I used it, and every time since then I've never had to wait on it. It makes a big difference if I have it mounted on the windshield (and the windshield mount supplied with it works great).
9 months ago @ AmazonI am very happy with my purchase. It is my second GPS and the technology has certainly advanced in the last three years. I added the friction mount to my system because the window suction cup mount put the unit too far away to conveniently touch the screen from the driver's seat.
9 months ago @ Amazon-Multiple POI routing with optimization -POI filtering by spelling is awesome!!! Best on the market from what I can tell.
9 months ago @ AmazonAfter reading reviews all over the internet, I decided to get the Nuvi 750 despite many reports of problems with acquiring a satellite signal. The first thing I did when I received my unit was to update the firmware with the very user friendly Garmin WebUpdater tool. After it applied all the updates I took it outside and it took approx.
11 months ago @ AmazonFor us the most useful feature is the excellent way Garmin has implemented the points of interest database - it beats the 3-year old integrated GPS in my car hands down.
9 months ago @ AmazonI got tired of having lousy GPSes in my rental cars, while my coworker with a Garmin 2610 had very good results with his GPS, so after doing a bit of research, I bought the Garmin Nuvi 750, as a good compromise between features, cost, and a small easy-to-travel package.
12 months ago @ AmazonThis unit has great build quality, and the window mount is typical Garmin Perfect! It is a small and compact unit with a great big, bright screen that fits nicely in a computer bag while flying, and pops out for the window when you hop in the rental car. Great directions and it contains a ginormous list of points of interest in your location.
11 months ago @ AmazonQuick start, very bright screen, great mapping and I love the FM wireless hookup to your car radio system. Also recalculates in mere seconds.
9 months ago @ AmazonI picked it for the user interface, which is simple to use, and picked the 750 over less expensive models in the nuvi line for some of the multiple waypoints, routing and voice to text features it has. As soon as I got it I uploaded the latest software and the lock times for satellites have been very fast.
11 months ago @ AmazonI bought the Nuvi 750 (piano black version from a leading electronics retailer) for my wife for Christmas and she absolutely loves it.
12 months ago @ AmazonIt sure beats the 7 or 8 cd set I got (paid upgrade) with my Expedition. The screen is great, easy to see and read.
9 months ago @ AmazonI chose wisely. The nuvi 750 has a very quick satellite bootup process and is easy and intuitive to navigate.
12 months ago @ AmazonSetup was very quick and simple to use. Can find addresses without the state or city input. Screen is very bright and the Where am I feature is great.
11 months ago @ AmazonThis widescreen gps has a very clear and sharp view. This was important to her so she could clearly see what she needed without having to squint or search for the info while driving.
12 months ago @ AmazonScreen is bright and clear and easy to read in almost any lighting condition.
