How it sucks

QAM tuner, beware that you still need a cable box to receive on demand, pay per view programming. Even if you decide not use on demand or pay per view programming, there is no cable card slot in this model such that the channel lineup for digital channels using the built in QAM tuner will be different than what your cable provider advertises.

The only options available in HDMI mode are Automatic, Widescreen, and Unscaled and none of them help to remove the black bars so there is no way of removing the black bars when playing blu-ray discs. The only work around is to buy blu-ray discs formatted for full screen which are very rare for films produced today. Although you are not supposed to remove the black bars from the screen when playing blu-ray discs because image quality is lower than what the director intended, people should be given the choice to display the movie on the full screen they paid for.

Didn't call Philips tech support yet but I suspect that this box is not a supported HDMI device. Once I did get it working with component, I noticed too many picture adjustments while viewing. I think this may be partially my fault with the particular settings I have configured but I have tried to minimize all auto-adjusting features of the tv and I still notice some brightness and contrast levels fluctuations.

BUT if you ship through EAGLE beware! They do not have their act together, they sent me the wrong tv and I had to go crazy to resolve the problem.

It's a bit toyish and shows the lack of commitment to the overall design of the tv. The good news is that I have 90 days to return it. Hopefully by then I can work out all these nuances.

The 768p set had terrible response time, and anything that moved quickly looked pixelated. We returned the first one, and came home with this one. Wow.

I reported this to Philips tech support and they said to use the component video connections. I told the guy I already am, that is how I can see any kind of picture at all... just wanted them to be aware this is more widespread problem than they think (their FAQ's page for this TV indicates it is for a particular DirectTV receiver - not the case).

I don't know if this is a flaw of my particular t.v., but it won't let me select from all of the choices offered for screen format, it only allows me to pick form 3 on the list (i.e., automatic, wide screen, and unscaled). Also, I went throught the automatic setup when I first turned on the t.v. and now I can't select any of the other standard settings for viewing and listening, it is like it is stuck or something.

Third thing I noticed is the overly-long response time switching between a normal to a HD channel and vice versa. Again could be something to do with the cable provider or the cable box, but I literally need to wait like 20-30secs for channel to come up when I switch. Like some other people, I would have thought the remote would be better designed.

for about 3 weeks now and I am a little disappointed with the product. I expected a lot from a t.v. that costs me $1,300 but I don't see that much of a step up from my old flat screen t.v.

If I had gone larger, poor video sources would produce a less-desirable image. Image Quality:

this particular product does work fairly well. Although there are a lot of programs that don't transmit in digital and the automatic size adjustment is a little irritating when the picture constantly upsizes to fill the screen and then when commercials come on the picture is smaller again, then upsizes again. This goes on over and over again...

Philips is a good company and had donated medical technology to hospials in the third world so not only is the TV good, but you can feel good buying it.

3 HDMI inputs, side inputs, USB for viewing photos and MP3s, and updatable firmware make this unit mean its will not be outdated next year. Lots of RCA style A/V inputs in the rear as well (3 of them)..

in a large living room/dining room combination room with high ceilings and the sound is terrible. I can't understand dialog at times. Other sounds on the t.v.

There are audio outputs that allow you to pipe your TV audio into external speakers. That said, the TV audio output cannot be linked to the volume setting on the TV. So, if you lower the volume on the TV, the audio output to my speakers stays constant (I have to walk to the stereo and manually adjust the volume, since my stereo remote is missing).

Bummer. However, a simple conversion box from PC to HDMI takes care of this, and since there are 3 HDMI inputs, its not that big of a deal. You can buy PCs now with HDMI outputs on them, thus, I feel this is not a major issue as I foresee more PCs with HDMI as an output.

The HDMI connection issue isn't limited to DirectTV receivers. I just got the top of the line Dish Network HD receiver and I get the same "unsupported video format" problem and the cyclical picture drops (.5 second picture then black screen - repeats over and over).

TV's on display at wholesellers are probably not at all optimized (that's why some of them look so bad). My Setup:

1 - The HDMI inputs are a little hard to get to... but it does make for a "Cleaner" and thinner wall mount VS other TVs.

How it doesn't

LCD screens typically have a non-reflective finish, so they tend to be better than plasma if a window is near the screen. In my case, I have a huge picture window on a perpendicular wall, so glare was definitely a concern. This TV's screen does amazingly well at blocking out the glare.

This TV far exceeded my expectations in every way! When shopping for a new TV, I did a lot of research (LCD vs Plasma, wholesale club specials vs. high-end electronics retailers, resolution, size, etc.).

I also purchased a pair of Philips surround sound ear phones, just like the ones for ipod's... They are great! Good Luck, and thanks Philips!

- Logitech Harmony 676 remote (must have for systems with a lot of components) I hope this review helps you as much as some of the others on here helped me! Get it -- you'll enjoy it!

A key feature that I love about this TV is that many of the video settings (such as sharpness) can be set per video source. So, I have my Tivo set to use a very soft sharpness, while my HDMI sources have a much greater sharpness.

Manual is clear. Picture both for non HDTV and HDTV is excellent. There is an easy assistant to help with picture adjustment and you can manually adjust contract, brightness, etc.

The sound is wonderful as well. I also purchased a Philips surround sound thearter system that rocks the house, and the house next door!

However, I have to strongly disagree. This TV has some of the best sound I've heard on any TV.

Phillips has the source code for free a free download! Cool! I was able to view photos and images and MP3s off a thumb drive, as well hook up my Sony DSC-H1 Camera right up to the USB port, and view pictures.

For the price this is a good TV for watching TV programs in HD broadcast over the air, playing dvds and blu-ray discs, and playing video games on consoles that support HD resoultions. I hooked this TV up to my Play Station 3 using an HDMI cable and the picture quality was excellent especially when playing games like Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. If you plan to watch HD programming on digital cable with this model because it has a built in ATSC.

I research for about six months and finally concluded this HDTV had everything I was looking for and the price was cheaper than any place I had checked. It is packed with options for enhancing your picture quality.

You can either let the TV "set things up for you" by showing several nice HD pictures pre-programed in it, and then letting you pick the best picture based on your viewing preferences. Or you can "dig deeper" and really tweak the picture.

This TV has a graphic EQ, so you can customize the sound to your liking. It delivers a good amount of bass. It knocks the socks off my previous 32" Sony tube TV.

A> This LCD has a crystal clear, bright picture. Even with standard def programming and a non-upconverted DVD player, video, movies, and TV looks outstanding. The "Pixel Perfect" option really makes every thing "pop" without making it look over driven or sharpened.

That's almost 23 years if viewed 6 hours per day! Typical tube TV's have a 25,000 hour half-life.

I wasn't extremely pleased with any of the built-in color temperature profiles (Normal, Warm, or Cool), so I specified my own with these settings: - Red White Point: 95 - Green White Point: 117

For each step, the wizard shows you two images and asks you to choose the one that looks better to you. Each step is for a different setting, such as sharpness, color intensity, contrast, etc.

They looked fantastic on the big screen. D> Easy to setup, easy to use remote.

I used the analog out feature to put into my analogue receiver and speakers and the sound is good.

Some have cinema screen (extra-wide). This TV detects the black bars on the sides or on the top and bottom and automatically stretches the image to fit the screen. However, it uses some logrithmic formula to keep distortion down to a minimum.
