How it sucks
click term for excerpts - most relevant excerpts first12 months ago @ AmazonThe only recourse I had was tipping it upside down and shaking it while hitting the eject button. I will send this back under warranty but I'm disappointed that I got a bad unit. Price per feature was very attractive but if you have to return it under warranty it negates any good feelings on the product.
12 months ago @ AmazonI had to ruin each of these DVD's getting them out and finaly on the last one i just left the disc in the player and stuck the whole thing in a closet. Also I could hear little or no surround sound effects ...i'd say the effects were more like a good stereo sound than surround sound so don't expect miracles there either....after hearing the Bose 2.1 system i was hoping for sound like it produced except in a less expensive unit but i guess you get what you pay for cause it was'nt even close . A few days ago i dug it out of my closet and took the head unit in to have a new disc drive put in at Best Buy so it'll work again but when i get it back i'm just going to give it away to a friend rather than ever mess with it again myself .
11 months ago @ AmazonI should have listened to the reviews on this site that said the player had major problems. Philips tech support actually had the nerve to suggest that I take it to a service center and PAY to have the disc removed which they claimed they would refund. For a brand new player, this is pathetic, particularly when so many other people seem to have had the same problem.
10 months ago @ AmazonNow 4 months later, we are still having the same problem and because the year warranty is up, Technical Support will not offer any advice. There only solution is for us to buy a refurbished system. From reading on-line, other buyers are having the same problem.
13 months ago @ AmazonThis particular model has issues with the disc getting stuck and not ejecting. Once it gets into this state, the only thing you can do is send it back for a replacement which takes about 3 weeks. My system was working great for 3 months, but then one day decided to chew up the CD.
10 months ago @ AmazonThe problem, though, is they didn't really make it to accept some expansion of your home theater. After I got my HD-DVD player, I realized that the AUX input doesn't accept digital audio. I could live with that, but the system then doesn't allow movie EQ settings for the AUX, just music.
12 months ago @ AmazonJust about the time to lose track of receipts and packing material. I had another DVD player so I just wrote it off to experience. It just occurred to me to return here and post this review for other potential buyers.
13 months ago @ AmazonObviously that was not possible, so I had to return it.
11 months ago @ AmazonPlayed one dvd on this unit and after play the unit would not eject the disc. In fact the unit said 'no disc'. Nor would it play.
10 months ago @ AmazonCons - no user defined EQ, you take what they give poor enhancement of dialog no digital AUX input
13 months ago @ AmazonI have had other Philips surround sound systems, which we loved, but it quit playing DVD's. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen with this system. If it does, I'll write again & let people know.
12 months ago @ AmazonI've since gone back to the good ole reliable 5.1 system with which i've had no problems at all and real surround sound . If you have to have a 2.1 system for what ever reason , just bite the bullet and spend the extra money on a top end Sony or Bose system and save yourself some head aches.
10 months ago @ AmazonIf you want to listen to CD's and have a decent audio system, this is for you but I wouldn't spend the extra money since your not actually getting a DVD player.
12 months ago @ AmazonWasn't long after owning this system before the loader failed. Wouldn't read DVDs and wouldn't eject them.
10 months ago @ AmazonAfter about 8 months, it won't recognize a DVD at all.
How it doesn't
