How it sucks

Bought this item and found that it does not support Dual Layer Discs that you burn. In this day and age to come out with a player that does not support all formats is just nuts. The player has been returned and I have ordered the Sony.

It makes grinding noises and is unable to recognize any DVD or CD. Since it's under the original 90 day parts+labor warranty, I'm dealing with Samsung's customer service (in India, apparently). I will update with my warranty experience once it's resolved or I give up.

- When you change channels and return to the dvd, aspect ratio and HDMI resolution often change automatically and you have to go to the player menu to redefine what you want. Also, it often goes to blue screen or static and you have to turn it off and back on to correct. - Often gives a No Disc error when swapping out discs, even on brand new discs.

The only problem is that this player does not play HDDVD's. So buyer beware that although this does make your normal dvd's look better it does not play HDDVD's.

It worked pretty well (although a bit buggy) until yesterday when the display on the player started displaying gibberish. Now, it won't work at all. Of course, just after the warranty has expired.

It's noisy, very slow to load and read(read just once), and it can't even hold its video signal properly. What a shame. Samsung made a mistake by releasing this and worse, by letting this still in circulation.

I just can't believe that Samsung will ever release a bad product and that I need to prove it myself. Well, "bad" is understatement... this is the worst piece of crap I ever bought.

But I was attracted by its match-up to my new big screen Samsung TV. The prospect of being able to run both with the TV's remote was a big plus, so I decided to give it a try. I could always return it within 30 days if it turned out to be troublesome.

I like the interface, picture quality, the remote control it's huge (wish it was like apple remote). I give 3 stars due the tray system (it doesn't close fully now, after a week of purchase I rather the slotting style as Macs do.

So, believe me, save your time and don't even try getting this one. This player lasted only minutes before I decided to return it, in a hurry!!!

Rushed to Electronic store to get this one regardless of how poorly it rated.

The two units communicate, using HDMI v1.3 cable. Loading of the disc takes longer than on a standard DVD player, but not more than 20 seconds.

Overall this is an OK unit, however if you plan on ever watching non Region 1 coded DVD's be warned that there isn't currently a way to unlock this player. Or least one I could find.

I have the player set to output at 720p, and there is no graininess or anything like that. I haven't experienced any "slow to respond remote control to player" problems like other people say they have.

Bought this player for my Samsung 40" HDTV LNT4053 and was VERY disappointed to learn that this player will NOT play the latest DVD double-layer disks. I thought the up-conversion was good until I bought Sony DVP-NS77H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD player.

This dvd player was cheap and I got what I paid for, I guess. The player has several annoying issues as follows:

Screen goes blank every few seconds, I think the unit thinks its hooked up to a VCR. Works fine on none copy-guarded stuff and when directly put into TV via HDMI cable. Called Samsung, said to go to Component output, but picture is not nearly as good and definitely not 1080 resolution as I was told by them.

I actually thought I would be able to play HD dvd's with this player. It was sort of misleading! What does HD compliant mean?

I don't know about anyone else's installation, but this thing mates with my new Samsung TV like it was built into it. The operation could not be easier: power it on, and it turns on the TV and switches the source to the proper HDMI input automatically. All I have to do is insert the disc and press the Play button on the TV remote.

This DVD player plays all my DVD's (Upconverting) them to awesome quality! It is easy to use-- I love that it is also Samsung -- like my TV- and it works GREAT! It's price was very affordable too- Cant beat it!

Amazon did free shipping- WOW- what more can you ask for! I purchased these "WireLogic HDTV Hook-Up Kit for Tabletop TVs and Entertainment Centers " also from Amazon to do the hook ups to my new TV- The pack came with everything I needed and great instructions!

Works great and is very inexpensive.. I am awating the HD - Bluray battle to mature and the Samsung dual players prices to come down so this is a nice interim solution.

While I am waiting for the HD versus Blu-Ray issue to settle itself in the marketplace I still want to see true high definition on my 1080p TV. I also have a collection of regular DVDs. This DVD player does an incredible job of upconverting.

An excellent DVD player upconverts beautifully in 1080P quality to my Panansonic 1080P Plasma. Colors are bright and rich. I would highly recommend this dvd player first before I made the decision to purchase either a Blu-ray or an HD DVD Player.

Only had this for a couple of weeks and so far it's great. Since I recently got a new Samsung HDTV I needed something to get me through until the Blu-Ray players mature and come down in price... For $79 this'll do, in fact, the upscaling looks so darn good, I'm in no hurry to even get a Blu-ray, it really looks GREAT!

Upsacling is great, because it couples normal DVD movies to new LCD and Plasma TV's, so you don't have to buy your movie collection again from DVD to HD DVD or Blue Ray. SO far... So great, and saves a lot of momey in movies.

This Samsung product works great! All DVD's look wonderful on my new Samsung HD tv.

I used to buy everything SONY, now I buy everything Samsung or everything Canon (camera, camcorder, printer scanner...). I think if you can, that is the best way to go. Manufacturers, it seems, test only their own products for compatibility and nowadays, compatibility is often in the heart of many of the problems with highly complex gadgets.

I read the critical comments in the earlier reviews, and was a little hesitant at getting this unit.

I decided not to buy one of the HD formats until this battle is settled ( I remember the Beta and VHS conflict) and I might never because I don't see how those formats can improve the image quality over this Samsung combo.

I bought this to view standard DVD's on my hdtv. Easy to use and hook up. The picture looks great as well.

The picture quality is really excellent.

Hooked to Samsung 40" LCD 1080p (LN-T4069FX). It works out-of-the-box just like advertised. Beautiful picture, perfect sound.
