How it sucks

I felt that I was going to pay more in the long run for the replacement of the bulb. All in all, Amazon was very compassionate during the refund process and very understanding. Do not let this sway you, nothing "electronically" was wrong with the product.

There is no apparent way to input the serial number for the product information portion of their repair request form. We can't even manually submit a repair request! We are so dissatisfied with Samsung and Amazon that we are boycotting both companies.

It's no home-theater caliber sound system, but it's certainly not as horrible as some of the reviews that complain about it said it would be. Unfortunately, my set does suffer from the bowing issue that many reviewers have experienced, and it certainly seems that the relatively flimsy frame is the culprit.

You will not be disapointed. By the way, some people said they experienced "bowing" on the picture. The only time I experienced this is when I had my center speaker on top of the TV (by the way there is a sticker on top that says Do NOT place anything on top of the TV because it would have an effect on the picture.) This is the first TV I've had that got it right by putting the inputs on the SIDE and not the back.

The trick to getting captions is that you have to get them through your cable box. If you don't know how to do that, get in touch with your cable company, and they should be able to help you set it up. If phone support is no help, either request a company technician (not a contractor) to come to your house and set the box up (or have them do it when they install the HD cable box that you'll need to get the HD channels), or look for the box's manual online.

I figured on spending $2000 or more but found an out-of-box 46" Samsung DLP (720p) for $599 at Circuit City. I mention this only because I put in for a service call right away(gray splotches on dark backgrounds) and the result was that Samsung offered to replace the 46" set with a brand new HLT5076. (They don't make them smaller than 50 inches anymore, which is a shame.) Except for the gray splotches on dark scenes I was really impressed with the 46inch set.

That said, the bowing is minimal, and only noticeable when there are horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen such as the cable on-screen guide or ESPN's crawler. It's not all that distracting, and certainly not awful enough to turn me off of the TV.

In other words, that person didn't care about sound quality because he was sending the sound to a system that would transform the sound into something spectacular. Well, to answer his question, we would. And there are dozens of reasons why people would buy a HDTV and not a full entertainment system.

I just had a horrible experience with Eagle / Ceva. The original Samsung TV that was sent to me last weekend was badly damaged.

I had stubbornly held on to that TV, mostly because it had a big (if not terribly clear) picture, but even more, didn't want to spend the money. Then it gave up the ghost, and I had no choice.

they did not work. I initially was in contact with India.... then was passed to the US support...

After five days (the TV shipped from Amazon in Reno and I live in the SF Bay Area so that seemed like ample time) I had yet to hear from Eagle, so I gave them a call. When I read off the tracking number, the guy on the phone said "They should have contacted you already." This made me wonder how long I could have waited until somebody ever got around to calling me. But I was not inclined to dwell on that, as the guy on the phone was actually quite helpful in setting up a prompt delivery date.

A Samsung tech rep informed me that bowing as much as 1/4 inch is considered normal for this slim design and anything beyond that merits a service call to bring it back into specifications. If the bowing problem concerns you, I would recommend examing a set in a store, specifically with standard definition source. It is, for my family, a minor glitch and acceptable when one considers the expense of a comparable LCD or Plasma screen.

DLP will not lose its picture quality due to the fact that it is a projection television that uses mirrors. The only downside is bulb replacement. sorry, for any typos or ms that have been overlooked.

For others worried about poor sound, I imagine you'll be disappointed only if you're an audiophile. Then again, if you are, I imagine this isn't the only piece of equipment you have in your entertainment system. One customer/reviewer, when defending the sound, wondered why anyone would ever buy a HDTV without hooking it up to some grand A/V system.

I also got an upconversion DVD player, but I sent it back because I couldn't notice any difference between that and my old DVD player. My only complaint would be the viewing angle. It's not great from the side.

Yes, after 9 years, the Sony died. I had been talking about a wide screen TV for the past 6 months, so when it died, I was 'accused' of tampering with it! No, I did not.....

The error code in the bottom right hand corner of the screen do not match anything in the product manual. Samsung tech support punts us to Amazon. Amazon tech support punts us to Samsung.

Think of it: upgrade to HD, and lose captions? Huh? I don't know why the TV itself can't translate/handle captions on component or HDMI inputs; I only know that it can't, and to reiterate, what I found online is that this appears to be common amongst HD TVs, and not specific to this model.

I suppose he could have handled the TV on his own, but it was naturally a very large box and so I decided to give him a hand rather than take the chance that the brand new TV would get dropped. Bottom line about delivery, it was about as far away from "white glove" as it could possibly be. It was slow, I had to contact the company myself to keep it moving at all, and the company did not send out adequate personnel to do the job right.

The transaction and pickup was flawless. I chose to install it myself which was a breeze. I find all menus easy to understand and the picture is great.

The delivery, by Eagle, couldn't have been smoother. I was a bit concerned when they called to set up a time and date for the delivery because the girl placing the call sounded as interested in her job as I might be in a gangrenous left foot, but two very friendly delivery people were right on time, and walked the TV up two flights of stairs, took it out of the box in a matter of seconds, hooked it up, tested it, and were out the door in under five minutes.

After an exhaustive search, this unit was the winner hands down. 50 inches, many different inputs, great price, and FREE shipping and setup!!

Great TV, and very good delivery. The picture is superb and even better in HD. I am very pleased with it, it is great value.

In my opinion, I prefer the image of this 1080p DLP Projection TV better than all the other LCD and Plasma TV's I saw on the shelf at best buy. This TV is incredibly bright. It comes with the brightness set at 45/100, and even at brightness 45, will make you squint when watching some scenes on this TV in the dark or ambient light.

This is a great tv. It was easy to install, not very heavy, and the picture is fantastic. We love it.

I was checking them out at Circuit City and narrowing down my choices when I saw this TV. The picture and the price blew me away immediately and I had to re-think my previous dismissal of DLP.

it now looks great. Picture quality is superb! My wife and I just said......

How good is this TV? let me put it this way, the level of quality on this set is SO good it makes HD TV look Grainy. The price is perfect and I know some people said they had problems with the delivery service, but mine was great.

I can't afford an entertainment system, and even if I could, my living room isn't big enough to house one. That I have a HD TiVo DVR to go along with this TV is huge for me. I'd love to have a Blu-Ray DVD player, but I've run out of gift cards, and they're too expensive right now anyway.

I'm sure someone on here will eventually complain about the factory speakers that are on the television, but if you are investing this much money you should have a home stereo. By the way, the factory speakers do a fine job.

This brings me to the logistics of the transaction. Amazon's price is unbeatable, better even than any "black friday" deal, and the free white glove shipping sounds like quite the perk at first.

I love this TV. It replaced a Sony 46" rear video projector manufactured in 1995, which along with my animals and many other items of importance to me survived a flood back in 2000.

Imagine my frustration that now, for the first time in a lifetime of being a Bulls fan, that I get a TV that enhances the experience of watching the game tenfold, and the Bulls absolutely rot this year.

Movie mode is far and away the best color preset (the others are quite over-hyped), and with a little tweaking it's right about where I want it. The gaming mode reduces lag to almost insignificant levels, certainly a nice feature. The USB port for viewing JPEG pictures is a nice touch, and I can certainly see the D-Sub VGA connector coming in handy in conjunction with my laptop.

I had been on the fence for so long regarding which television to buy (DLP, LCD, Plasma...etc.) for almost three years. I figured for the value per screen inches, this DLP television was the winner. The picture quality is superb, and I don't have a bad thing to say about this television.
12 months ago @ Amazon
It also can read USB memory sticks and display . JPG images stored on them with the built in firmware. The TV firmware can be upgraded by using a computer with software from Samsung's website.

I'd have to say this was the best delivery experience I've had.

It came quickly and I've had no problems at all so far. The picture is amazing, even without the HD box, which I have yet to get from the cable company. It's thin and light and easy to move.

It's more bright and more clear than my friends 60" 1080p Panasonic Plasma. I would highly recommend this.
