How it sucks

I have had the TV for 3 weeks, it had a buzzing noise and i called customer service. Technicians came out and said the only thing they could do was to bring it back to the shop "Tear it apart" and test each individual part. I did not let them take it and called Amazon back again and I am still waiting for a call from them (4 days ago) "we will contact you within 24 hours" TV looks great, just have to wear hearing protection so the buzzing noise doesn't hurt your ears.

At this point I just want out of the deal, so I ask the customer service person to cancel the extended warranty on the TV that Amazon won't sell me. I get this story about how the extended warranty is through a second company and that I must contact them directly to cancel the order. I tried to get the customer service person to understand a very simple concept...

I expected to be told that they would be late, which would have been absolutely fine. Instead, I was told that I never had an appointment, the set never left the warehouse and that it would be at least a few days before I would get it. Not only that, I was told that they tried calling me to tell me that it wasn't going to be delivered, yet I was home all day, took no calls, and a scan of my Vonage call log shows no incoming calls.

I don't know if it goes as far as advertising fraud, but at the very least it's unethical business practices. The incompetency comes from a customer service staff that tells you a product is available when it's really not. The lack of customer service speaks for itself.

I checked the website and Amazon still had the product listed as in-stock. I used the customer service e-mail to ask why they wouldn't sell me a TV they show in stock. Also asked why they would continue to sell me an extended warranty on a TV they weren't selling me.

He helped me put the TV on the stand and patiently waited while I powered it up and made cable connections to ensure that it was functioning properly. Amazon was somewhat poor re communication. At the time of purchase an Amazon rep (via phone) couldn't really give me the specifics about the TV, i.e.

(It almost looks like blue lens flare.) It drove me up the wall and turned out to be a stupid bracket on the lens assembly that was made of shiny metal. After three weeks of phone tag with Samsung repair, the guy came over and switched the part with a matte black version.

There was a small defect on the right hand side of the screen. I called Amazon and spoke to customer service for only a few minutes to record the return. Amazon replaced it within a week.

Once they finally approved the replacement, they did not commit to delivering the replacement TV in anytime soon. Many calls to customer service over several weeks got the same response - "we dont know when we can deliver the TV & we cant do anything about it". I am still waiting for the replacement TV and it has been nearly 2 months since the DLP TV failed.

The customer service person was nice and told me that there must have been some kind of glitch in the system because the item is in stock. All I have to do is go back online and re-order the TV. I asked if she could re-order the product and was told no, the order was closed and I needed a new order number which she could not generate.

The deception is the advertising of a TV they don't have. After a week they are still listing the TV as available, so don't bother trying to order it. Keep in mind, the TV is not coming from a second party but from Amazon, LLC.

It also doesn't get along with my Logitech Harmony remote: causing weird random pauses when starting everything up, and occasionally turning my Xbox 360 back on after everything shuts down. Finally, the LEDs shut off entirely to save power when the screen is completely black, which can be annoying if the movie/game goes between totally black and almost totally black.

I called Samsung customer service, who put me in touch with a local repair shop (all under standard warranty).

On rare instances the TV does display the Blue halo/Blue smudge issue that Samsung has already noted as a common defect. The repair of the issue is about a 15 minute job and covered under warranty.

The TV failed in first week of Feb 2008. Samsung "certified" field service technician worked on the TV for 6 weeks, bringing 1 part every week to change & test. He had no idea what was wrong.

I ordered the Samsung HLT5687SAX 56" Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV along with an extended warranty. Later I receive an e-mail that Amazon has cancelled my order. The e-mail was appologetic but slightly vague in saying that they were out of stock.

So your telling me that Amazon's corporate policy is to have the Customer service department not provide customer service? Answer: "Ummm, I guess so."

(If you'd like to check your set, try this: I could always see the problem when I switched to an input that it couldn't find, like a turned-off Playstation. The screen would be black, with an "input not found" message. That provided enough contrast to make those blue lights appear, at least for me.)

Tv is alright when I don't see the rainbow "Halo" prism on the lower center of my screen. Called where I got it from and they say it's normal for NEWER DLP's to do this. I say well if the salesman would have told me that do you think I would have bought this tv they say no and then tell me it falls into a tolerance level and I have to tolerate it....

The deal was exceptional, (under $1100), and having the Amazon 30 day return policy in place really made me feel comfortable with the purchase. Eagle was great for shipping/tracking, although they only sent one guy to deliver the TV.

How it doesn't

The picture is great, especially in HD. I did alot of research before purchasing and decided this was the great bang for the buck. It was definitely a great buy, the tv quality is wonderful and the price was perfect.

what a total pleasure! recieved the tv right on time from eagle and the delivery guy was super helpful, friendly, very professional! the tv was in excellent condition and really easy to get everything hooked up and running.

I have a set of 3 french doors at the back of the living room on the opposite wall from the TV, which allows morning sunlight to flood in, and the TV still looks great! Since it's easy to go on about the great things with the TV set, let me talk briefly about a couple of small negatives.

But a quick review of the manual and a tweak of one of the settings, and I found an absolutely amazing picture. The factory setting for color is much too livid, with yellows, reds and blues looking almost florescent. Adjusting the "Color" setting down to the 45-50 range results in much more realistic color renditions.

In addition, the price of the TV had been reduced since my purchase and Amazon credited my charge card with the difference, may I add without a quibble. Excellent CUSTOMER SERVICE! TV is excellent so far, good color and many features,I'm impressed!

After researching the subject, with much thanks to all you previous reviewers, my choice boiled down to a Sony SXRD and the Samsung LED-DLP. For argument's sake I will stipulate that picture quality is about equal because I had previewed the two technologies at the big box stores. Accordingly I chose the Samsung HL-T5687S because of its LED technology, its future compatibility with 3D movies, and the fact that its LED light source is predicted to last the life of the set, perhaps up to 15 years.

I have my Xbox and PS3 run through my Samsung home theater amp using HDMI cables. I have my HD cable box running directly to the TV using an HDMI cable with an optical digital running from the cable box to the amp. This set up provides a fantastic picture with great sound.

We've had friends over that just love it and our kids think it's great! Don't think you can go wrong with this TV. I also love buying from Amazon because of their reliability and have done so many times over the years.

The free shipping and no sales tax clinched the deal. The TV was delivered in less than 2 weeks and the delivery service was excellent. We were amazed at how easy the set up was (plug & play) and we couldn't be more impressed with the picture quality and vibrant colors.

Of course the picture quality is almost entirely dependent on its source. At first my connections were all analog (component), from my old set, and there were minor issues with the picture color intensity (too vivid) and sound (resonance). Subsequently, eventually, I switched to HDMI digital connections and those issues were resolved.

This TV is by far the best I have ever owned. I purchased a refurbished set and I am absolutely satisfied with my decision.

First off I received the TV 5 days before the estimated delivery date! The TV works great and has an excellent picture.

I am also extremely pleased to have paid 1/3 less than what this model retails for. The picture quality is simply stunning. All of my HD is in 1080i format as for now......

The only thing is when I use remotes other than the manufacturer's to change the input it takes a whole min to remove the Input HUD. Using the Samsung remote you can change the input and press Enter to make the HUD go away. A very minor problem for such a great price though!

I also love the fact that I can finally dump my DVI cables and switcher and utilize the 3 HDMI inputs on this set (the HLN had just one DVI input). Samsung has another winner!

All the features most people will need for the foreseeable future. Pros: Fantastic picture, clear screen, angles a, good looking standard def picture, good sound, all the ins and outs you need. Doesn't eat electricity like plasmas and to a lesser extent LCD.

I have an HD Cable Box running through HDMI, and Xbox 360 running through the PC input, and a Wii running through component. The cable and 360 are absolutely stunning. Watching Planet Earth in 1080p on this set will knock your socks off.

TV looks great, has great picture, and is easy to use. The different picture sizes are easy to navigate through, changing from 4:3 (never used), to 16:9 (usually used), to 16:9 zoom 1 (for widescreen TV shows like The Office & 30 Rock), etc. Great picture, minimal ghosting.
