Amazon refuses to even contact Samsung on my behalf because it is 2 weeks over Amazon's 30 day return policy. All I asked was that they help me out a little and ask Samsung to hurry the repair or replace this stupid piece of junk. After countless calls to Samsung, as of this writing the TV is still not repaired, they refuse to replace it, I'm paying for HD service that I don't have a TV to receive it on, and it has been over a month since this TV has worked.

My 30 day return from when I first bought the TV would be long over and by this time the price on the TV had dropped by $150. I called up Amazon and since the TV had been deemed defective by the serviceman they agreed to pick it up and give me a full refund. They've told me I will get the refund when they receive the TV.

My guess is it will. I'm asking Amazon to extend my 30 day return limit so I can avoid sending the TV back, getting a new one, and then waiting for that to be repaired. If this doesn't work for them, I think I'll just have it send back, order the new one and then I have until Jan 31, 2008 to get it repaired as per Amazons holiday return policy.

But, if you get a bad one like I did, be prepared to make a lot of phone calls and spend a lot of time going nowhere with a company that doesn't care if their products work or not once you buy them. This is the worst purchase I have ever made. I don't know if I would have had any better luck dealing with a brick and mortar store rather than online, but I don't think I will ever spend this much money again on an electronic item online.

I must say that I called Samsung that evening and they promptly put in a work order, gave me the name of the repair company and their phone number. I called the repair company the next day (they hadn't gotten the work order yet) and they were prompt in picking it up and in a week we had it back working. Apparently it had a faulty DMD Module as well as a faulty ballast power supply.

I called for repair immediately, the repairman had to make 3 visits,which took 3 weeks, and finally he was able to repair the TV, unfortunately for me the repair lasted 3 days. Called Samsung again, they refuse to replace the TV, they say I have to "give them a chance" to fix it. I said that I thought 3 repair visits and 3 weeks was chance enough.

He will get the part on Friday hopefully but I do not know when the repair will be made. What a hassle. It is still under warranty but I did not puchase the extended warranty from Amazon.

Another tip, Use a Visa Card to pay for the purchase and your warranty is automatically extended a full year through Visa. And Visa offers a 4 year extended warranty that you can purchase for much less than any I have seen. But it doesn't make sense to get the extra warranty until your other one is almost expired as they would run concurrently and you would only get an extra 2 years over the manuf.

When I showed them the consumer alert on this site they said they know nothing about that problem. I also talked to a supervisor at Samsung customer service. She refused to assign another service company or have them perform the service at my home even when I suggested that I may have to return the TV.

Then it would not turn back on with the remote. I had to turn it back on with the button on the front of the tv. Now it will not change channels or bring up the menu or respond to any inputs from the remote or the buttons on the side of the tv.

That was a mistake. I can get the extended warranty from Samsung but it would cast $20.00 per month, $240.00 for one year. I will keep you posted after the repair has been made.

The one image defect that I see I can't be sure is due to the TV, but I'll mention it--there is a "shimmer" or varying brightness level of portions of the image, at a rate of about 2 times per second. This shimmer is barely noticeable on the same material on other TV's and in some cases is totally absent, and I have found no video settings that mitigate this annoying tendency. It seems to be exacerbated by any programs that also exhibit a back and forth "jitter" from left to right (perhaps a problem with film to video transfer issue).

Amazon won't help, Samsung won't replace the TV or take it back, I'm sitting here with this stupid 61" monstrosity sitting in the living room broken for over a month now. I just returned from a big-box store that sells this unit as well as a LOT of other large HDTV sets; I still like the image that the Samsung LED units deliver. The Samsung LCD-LED sets are very good, but the rear-projection set that I got is a LOT SMOOTHER.

Remote doesn't work, the buttons on the TV don't work, the set powers on and off all by itself. Very disapointing! The only reason I gave it one star is because when it does come on the picture is beautiful.

H. Gregg and decided to swing by after work to see what they were asking for the Mitsubishi sets. I found the set I was looking for but was stopped by a particular Samsung set sitting right next to it.

This is not the set, it is the original source material. Third, you will never hang this pup on the wall. It is slim and light weight, but it is not flat panel.

But from our Sofas which are at an angle ( 45 from the center), the screen dims significantly. Also if we sit down on chairs in front of the TV, the screen dims. We are going to return this TV and get an LCD TV which is smaller than this but is better from all viewing angles.

If you are right up on the screen, however you will see distortions and blurry edges, but come on, who sits 1 foot from a television anyway? Viewing from the side on this TV is not a problem either. In fact I think it looks just as good as viewing straight on.

I went thru 2 of these sets with the blue halo issue and the (((((((()))))))) problem on the screen. Samsung tech support was terrible and denied this was a big problem with these sets.

One thing I haven't been able to do is watch two channels at the same time via split screen, which is one thing my old Sony could do. It's a slight disappointment, but definitely not a deal breaker.

If something like that happens to " LCD " or " PLASMA " TV's, you are screwed body, because the service plans just simply will not cover that.

The light engine does emit a buzzing sound, audible across the room when the screen displays any image but total black, but that buzz will be drowned out by normal audio levels, so dont worry about that.

Had a bunch of family over for Thanksgiving, and other than coming back for dinner, I seemed to lose everyone to the basement for most of the day. I think I sold 3 more of these that day. Convenience factors are a plus too: inputs on the side of the back, adn on screen menus are easy to use.

Regular broadcasts are acceptable, but it is best to get further back from the screen. Also, you will need a High Def dvd player with a very expensive cable to go with it.....but the remarkable color

Of course, there is no substitute for adding a real surround sound system.... Last but not least, everything considered, for the money this is an unstoppable value. For less then $2000, you get a huge 61" screen with 1080p, good sound, lots of features, and intuitive design and usability.

Once they finally approved the replacement, they did not commit to delivering the replacement TV in anytime soon. Many calls to customer service over several weeks got the same response - "we dont know when we can deliver the TV & we cant do anything about it". I am still waiting for the replacement TV and it has been nearly 2 months since the DLP TV failed.

Called the Samsung service number and they tried to "talk" me through how to fix it... I"m not their technician, they are not paying me to be a technician, send me one out. Samsung finally agreed and the next day they responded.

Although I wanted to like the TV and keep it, I have to give it the lowest rating because of the halo problem and the terrible service to fix the problem.

I also felt that during fast moving scenes the picture was getting blurry and out of focus. But the glowing reviews kept on coming - so we went back again, this time asked them to change the source several time, still unimpressed. So we thought that maybe the lights at this store are messing up with this DLP and we went to another big box store - same problems.

Best picture I'd ever seen (sometime) up until yesterday, more on that later. I bought this TV because I hate the idea of replacing bulbs. Problem is this is the very first TV to use LED technology, not a good idea IMHO to buy 1st gen.

I had learned to get used to the black bars, but after turning this TV on for the first time, it was an entirely new experience. While my old TV did not look bad, it just wasn't able to produce the vibrant and clear picture that the Sammy can. It looks as good as it did in the store.

It is in a bright room with lots of natural light, but even on the brightest day the picture isn't washed out. HD display quality is mindblowing, and color accuracy is spot on, although SDTV is not great, just acceptable.

The fix is to use a hand-level and make sure that all corners are horizontally and vertically levelled using shims wherever possible. b) Cannot store modified picture settings - I like to play around with the picture settings, however, I cannot store multiple settings to compare between one another.

Some text at the extreme edges may be slightly cut off. There's a positioning control to center the picture, so if u find for example that text is cut off at the bottom, u can show more of the bottom portion, which means more of the top will cut off. There is a setting called "Just Scan"--do NOT confuse that with no overscan.

We do not like the picture quality of non-HDTV broadcast. A technician has been here, updated software but no real improvement in the quality. If you are going to buy any HDTV make sure you have them show you a non-HD broadcast.

The sound output is loud but poor in the fact that voices sound almost muffled or a tinny sound to it, when watching sports for example the cheering crowd almost sounds like they're cheering under water.

Also my biggest problem with the TV is the horrible sound quality of the internal speakers. Don't even attempt to turn up the bass because all you'll get is the sound of struggling speakers which sound muffled at best. I am not referring to Rap music either.

One drawback to this TV is that when you hook up your TV/Game System/Dvd Player/whatever via HDMI to the TV, it will not output sound via the optical output. I guess this is fairly common these days, but my older panasonic hdtv would output the sound through the optical cable of whatever input/source was currently being shown on the TV.

My only complaint is with the quality of the sound. The simulated surround is terrible. Regular sound is ok, but hey, who cares.

It provides a number of functional settings and controls to fine tune video and audio. Audio is good (not excellent), but I figured no two-speaker internal system in a slim design is going to put out tremendous sound anyway so it still gets 5 stars in my book. You get the best sound with a home theater system, and I think that's what all manufacturers believe the consumer will do anyway; the reason why full-sized, deep cabinet tv's are on the decline.

It's unrealistic to expect a TV to produce sound like that which we get from our sound systems. I have a system, but Idecided to watch TV one night with the TV speakers instead, so that I could write this. This is the optical problem causing those reflected "blue blobs". The bad news it that it might take up to a month to get the painted light tunnels in the repair pipeline. AND there's no guarantee this will fix it.

I gave it some thought and decided to go the repair route. Long story short; I was to recieve a new light engine this Monday (took 2.5 weeks from the time reported). The tech who orderded it was not even sure if this would fix it, but it was the only option as far as she could tell.

I think they might have a legitimate complaint with Samsung about the lack of that "flat black" paint missing on that inside of the light tunnel. BTW, the )))))))))))))))) (((((((((((((((((( issue doesn't really bother me that much (aka the "prism effect") --- The "Blue Blob" does. Maybe the flat black paint solution will fix both.

So the theory that the light in the store was messing up the Samsung DLP went out of the window as well.

the poor feed is really obvious, all the defects are clearly visible... not a tv problem, but a poor quality 480 feed.

There are various other times when you can definately see reduced quality video, but it certainly is not that bad and it is not a permanent effect. The remote control can be programed to control your other equipment, like a DVD player, old VCR, or cable/sat box. It can "mostly control" your other equipment, but it may not be able to do everything unless you take the time to see what all the buttons can possibly do.

So now I will see what Amazon will do. I have many Samsung monitors, another DLP, and really like their products, but this one does not measure up to their quality.

I had almost bought one on several occasions but kept talking myself out of it figuring the price would go down another hundred bucks a month later. I heard a radio ad today advertising a 20% leap-day sale at H.

I found Amazon consistently had the best deal and I knew I could trust them for customer service. And as I checked into the product warranty I also noticed Amazon's Best Price Guarantee. I have been watching the price fluctuate on this product so I just check it every day and I have already received a $45 credit because the price dropped for a couple days last week.

I placed my order on Sunday and the box arrived Wednesday of the same week. The shipping order comments box said the shipper was to unpack and remove the trash, which they did not do, but since the shipping was free and amazingly early, I didn't mind.

I can't think of a feature it lacks, and at Amazon's price (with free shipping) for < $1900 it was WAY less than the $2600 Circuit City and Best Buy are asking (not including sales tax !!!) I expected a long wait, and bare-bones shipping. Amazon had it here in 5 days with WHITE GLOVE (which I din not expect.) The guys carried it up a flight of stairs, unboxed it, plugged it in to see it fire up, and took away the box (its nice to tip those guys by the way ....)

Keep a close eye on your shipping and don't be afraid to call the shipping company for updates. I did and I was able to pick it up on a Monday instead of having to wait for them to come to my area on a Thursday. If you buy through Amazon they use Eagle as their shipping company.

I turned my attention to flat panel LCD but was turned off by the price to go larger than 52 inches and the posterization especially on moving objects. That left me with rear projection but I was turned off by the replacement lamp and moving color wheel technology.

I had my eye on Samsung DLP TV's for over two years, but couldn't really justify spending nearly $3000 for an item that wasn't a necessity. But one day after just price shopping these TV's, I saw this one on sale for over $800 off the regular price so I finally bit the bullet and bought it and I have not been disappointed yet.

If money were no object I would have probably bought a comparably sized LCD tv but that would have cost at least twice [maybe 3 times] the price of this set. The only benefits to an LCD are the flatness for wall mounting and viewing angle.

I have had my eye on a 73" Mitsubishi set for awhile after seeing one at a local Audio / Video store when they first came out and was dead set on getting one. I had almost bought one on several occasions but kept talking myself out of it figuring the price would go down another hundred bucks a month later. I heard a radio ad today advertising a 20% leap-day sale at H.

I found Amazon consistently had the best deal and I knew I could trust them for customer service. And as I checked into the product warranty I also noticed Amazon's Best price Guarantee. I have been watching the price fluctuate on this product so I just check it every day and I have already received a $45 credit because the price dropped for a couple days last week.

I can't think of a feature it lacks, and at Amazon's price (with free shipping) for < $1900 it was WAY less than the $2600 Circuit City and Best Buy are asking (not including sales tax !!!) I expected a long wait, and bare-bones shipping. Amazon had it here in 5 days with WHITE GLOVE (which I din not expect.) The guys carried it up a flight of stairs, unboxed it, plugged it in to see it fire up, and took away the box (its nice to tip those guys by the way ....)

Purchased this monitor from Amazon at a good price over Black Friday after pouring over all the reviews here and elsewhere. The delivery service (Eagle USA) is good at what it does and my monitor was up and running in less than 10 minutes. Initially I was disappointed at the picture quality, however after having played with the viewing distance I have to say that this tv is absolutely amazing, producing one of the best picture quality.
