I read that calls to tech support were futile and was ascared to call. I am here to tell you I spent 5 minutes on the phone with tech support and the issue was fixed. The service number had menus which would point you to the exact error I was getting, "screen turning black when you click Play" or something to that effect.

The last time I played the game the darn thing frozen my computer screen I had to shut it down and restart my computer. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone even for the price and to top it off I'm afraid to try to put the game back into my computer to play again (I'm not computer savvy)so I wouldn't want to have my computer have a permanent problem.

I had go into "MSCONFIG" and shut everything down to even get it to load. And as is the "norm" these days you can't get a service rep that speaks English clearly to help find the trouble.

You cannot play in windowed mode, it has to be full screen. But you can simply hit your "windows" key or alt-tab to work with other apps while waiting for your opponent to make their move...;). I say buy it, but be aware that I have not tried it on a laptop.

However, the dictionary in the game is bad -- in particular, it does *not* use the latest Official Dictionary (4th edition). To take one example, the word QI and the plural QIS are not available in this game, and those are important Q-without-U words for serious Scrabble. When I played a new game and made a word and clicked Play OR immediately clicked Pass, the screen would go to black and windows wanted me to send an error report. I searched this forum and found that many of you had the same problem and some solutions were offered, but nothing seemed to work.

This version is so old, the visuals are all grainy, and hard to see. The game is not at all pleasant to play, compared to the new versions, and you have to keep the CD in the drive all the time to play it, even after you install the game.
