After a little back and forth they finally admitted that there may have been a mistake and that the item was still at their facility then they told me that the soonest it could be scheduled for delivery was the following Friday or Saturday.

This is a constant level noise that is present from all the inputs, even is there is no source connected. It only goes away if you use the mute button, or run the volume down to zero. I've called Sony customer support (bad experience, and one of the main reasons for this post), and eventually they had me contact an authorized Sony repair center, who will be out later this week.

I know that yearly upgrades in computer models often add up to extremely significant differences, not always apparent on the surface. Could the same be said for HDTV? So besides Amazon, I've been checking out Consumers Reports (why is it that many of their latest recommendations are for models no longer even on the market?) and Cnet (more up-to-date but not comprehensive; moreover, the "experts" rating and consumers' ratings were often at such odds it was difficult to know who to believe.

DVD's are not HD so you will need to purchase either a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player and compatable titles as well with the cables (DVD players that upscale to 1080 are NOT HD so don't waste money, also the new HD players will play your old DVD's but they will only upscale and are NOT HD).

I guess Vivid makes the reds pop out more and will make your day if you're looking at nothing but flowers and fire engines, but in normal TV viewing, it produces bizarre green shadows and garish reds. Cinema mode seems to mute the colors a bit, emulating a "film projected onto a screen" effect, but Normal is where it's at. Once you figure that out, and connect your HD cable box or whatever, the TV goes dark for a second and pops back with the screen configured properly for the signal it's being fed.

So, whether this is a electrical design flaw, or a isolated experience, I'd allow the set to warm up for a few minutes, and then listen to the audio, before I'd let Eagle Delivery leave your house. I'd rather deal with a refused shipment with Amazon, then to deal with Sony's terrible customer support.

He whines to everyone not to buy an LCD due to the poor sound and picture. And the trademarked term "Xross Menu Bar" is something for the birds. All that is really denoted by this is a menu driven display for parameter setting with three headers and three drop-down menus under each header. In computer pc software, this idea goes back almost to the inception of the IBM PC in the early 80's, but apparently, Sony thinks the concept is something new.

Not only does it handle HD signals great, but non-HD stuff looks nice as well. This was a huge problem with early HD sets, where normal broadcasts looked terrible, and not even just by comparison with HD. I'm not sure what three letter acronym can be attributed to that feature, but it's good to have it, because right now there really aren't that many HD stations.

Purchased Sony KDL-40V3000 last month from Best Buy. Got it home and the controls on the top of the set would not work. Sony advised to return it.

The built-in speakers are junk - maybe they want you to buy a so-called "home theater" sound system to get decent sound quality. I would if only I had room for one. Secondly, the manual should be rewritten in understandable English.

Whether its when the camera is panning, or just when objects on the screen are moving, all of the detail is lost in a blur. It looks like the screen doesn't refresh fast enough. Brighter outdoor scenes perform much better, but in the long run, I wish that I'd waited another year or so to dip into HDTV as things like this just haven't been worked out yet unless you go with a DLP TV instead of LCD, which is still a bit too new for me to spend money on either..

Last but not least - 10 days after I bought the TV I saw Vann's advertise it for $130.00 cheaper. I called and used the 15 day price guarantee and they refunded my card the next day - no questions asked. I actually think they may have made a mistake because the next day I checked and they had actually raised the price back up to more than what I had originally paid.

I checked all the channels - the normal channels were ok and the HD channels looked really good. I tried to watch some dark and action movies (Mission Impossible 3) to see how it performs - I was slightly disappointed since I was finding it hard to watch the movie. Then I tried the game mode in the TV and it looked better but I was not completely satisfied.

I placed the order with Amazon on Saturday 5th and it was shipped on Monday 7th. I was told it would arrive on the 16th but it arrived this morning on the 9th....seven days earlier than anticipated! It came by Eagle USA carrier and the young man who brought it called early in the morning and told me the exact time he would be there.

Called store, called Sony, I haven't recieved a very satisfying response what could have caused it. I don't think it was a physical damage. I am still awaiting a visit from Sony Tech to give me the reason for this damage which I suspect is due to temperature causing outer panel brittle polymer to crack due to induced stresses.

The picture is so real that my kids (only 2 - 3) think that what they are seeing is real and not on TV. Programs that they normally would not have any interest in captivates them now. I have a Sony computer and I have had two different Sony cameras now...

Second, the design of the stand and the remote control are quite crude and unappealing. Third, the SD picture is mediocre and in need of constant adjustments to fit the screen vertically or horizontally.

The picture is stunning with a HD signal, and still very good with low resolution signals. It has several filters which help improve poor quality broadcasts, and the intuitive menu makes it easy to set up and use without even looking at the manual.

It may not deliver on features. I wish it had one more HDMI jack, but I can live with that since the picture quality is so good and the black case. The menu system is quite good and user friendly.

If you have a friend who bought the biggest TV they could afford and had you over to watch a movie, only to spend the entire night pushing buttons and asking "Does that look right to you?", then you know that it *is* possible to spend a whole lot of money on a TV and still end up with a lousy picture. This isn't the TV that your friend will buy.

I like the feature set on the Samsung 4069FX model, but bottom line is no matter what features that Samsung has, the picture still seems better on the Sony. Frys had the Mits, Sony and Samsung side by side and I stood there for 30 minutes analyzing each detail on each set and the Sony always stood out for detail when you look at hair and grass and the little things.

Amazon's "White Glove Service" is a joke! They promise that at least two persons will deliver the product, set it up for you to make sure it is not broken and is in a perfect working order.

Finally after you spent $2000+, do yourself a favor spend another $100-200 for a GOOD universal remote. This will eliminate the cluter and when set up properly will make controlling your system with only the press of a couple of buttons (a good remote will control more than one device with only 1 push of a button, down the road you can even control things such as lights).

The delivery guys called to make an appointment, called again on the day of delivery to say they would arrive in half an hour (so I didn't have to stay home and wait), brought the TV into my house, unpacked it, set it up, confirmed that it worked and there was no damage, and removed the packing materials.

I had to wait 3 days to hook it up because I was preparing the stand it would set on. Now I am no wiz with wires when it comes to stereo equiptment.

Now simply tune out the gear talk and compulsive comparison shopping and tune into your Sony for the next ten or more years (you know they'll be coming out with onboard movie and concert libraries, less directional screens, automatic wireless computer interactivity promising to make the viewer a part of new "audience-oriented programming," Blue Ray or HDTV (not both or either) with wireless connectivity, perhaps even provisions to bluetooth your television to your alarm clock, thermostat, and auto remote car starter--but simply decide to ignore ignore it all.

My one issue with the TV, that I was aware of when I purchased it, is that it only has two HDMI inputs and if I want to hook up everything I own, (Cable DVR, PSP3, Xbox 360) at once I'm forced to use the component input. If money didn't matter I would have purchased the KDL-40W3000 which has three HDMI inputs and some better technical specifications, although I don't think my eyes would see any improvement due to the better specs.

The menu system lets you assign a tag to each input, so instead of it saying "Component 2" it can say "DVD". This is nice, but if you have more than one gaming system, it can get confusing, because you'll end up with three inputs labeled "Game" with the same icon, and only their order to differentiate between them. Why not just let the user put in their own labels, like you can with most Sony receivers?

The rear is also designed very well with the I/O's placed out of the way (i only state this because I looked at brand X and the salesman said when wall mounted some of the inputs are blocked from use). The ability to rear mount the DME device is also well thought out even though I don't own it and probably wont ever (at least for now due to reviews).

The second is another higher zoom level would be nice to zoom in on the wide aspect movies (in 'normal' TV). And finally there is only one coaxial input. It would have been nice to have two coaxial inputs, one for cable, and another for an external antenna (to get over-the-air signals).

I ordered on Sunday expecting it to ship monday from PA. We were contacted on Tuesday saying the TV was in the local Boston warehouse and ready for delivery. The unit was delivered Wednesday afternoon by Eagle Freight.

The driver said there was no way they do that - even tho the dispatcher who had scheduled the delivery said that they would. Never again would I buy anything that used Eagle.

I picked up this tv on saturday for $825.00 brand new in the box. you cant find it no where for that price.the reason why Got it so cheap was because my brother in law works for a company that ships all tv to the b&m stores (best buy, cc,J&r) so I got it for the price that they pay.but the tv is great, sound and pic excellent.worth the money.also got a 5year warranty for 80 bucks

I could see the gold fibers on a bow tie. I think the menu system is intuitive, but then I was used to the XMB on the PS3. I made my order on a Sunday night and received it the following Wednesday, that was fast.
