How it sucks

They insisted that they had called me and left a messaage and that I had returned the call saying that they had the wrong person/address. When I told them they were wrong, that I hed never received or replied to any call, they insisted again that they had called me. After a little back and forth they finally admitted that there may have been a mistake and that the item was still at their facility then they told me that the soonest it could be scheduled for delivery was the following Friday or Saturday.

This is a constant level noise that is present from all the inputs, even is there is no source connected. It only goes away if you use the mute button, or run the volume down to zero. I've called Sony customer support (bad experience, and one of the main reasons for this post), and eventually they had me contact an authorized Sony repair center, who will be out later this week.

I know that yearly upgrades in computer models often add up to extremely significant differences, not always apparent on the surface. Could the same be said for HDTV? So besides Amazon, I've been checking out Consumers Reports (why is it that many of their latest recommendations are for models no longer even on the market?) and Cnet (more up-to-date but not comprehensive; moreover, the "experts" rating and consumers' ratings were often at such odds it was difficult to know who to believe.

DVD's are not HD so you will need to purchase either a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player and compatable titles as well with the cables (DVD players that upscale to 1080 are NOT HD so don't waste money, also the new HD players will play your old DVD's but they will only upscale and are NOT HD).

I guess Vivid makes the reds pop out more and will make your day if you're looking at nothing but flowers and fire engines, but in normal TV viewing, it produces bizarre green shadows and garish reds. Cinema mode seems to mute the colors a bit, emulating a "film projected onto a screen" effect, but Normal is where it's at. Once you figure that out, and connect your HD cable box or whatever, the TV goes dark for a second and pops back with the screen configured properly for the signal it's being fed.

So, whether this is a electrical design flaw, or a isolated experience, I'd allow the set to warm up for a few minutes, and then listen to the audio, before I'd let Eagle Delivery leave your house. I'd rather deal with a refused shipment with Amazon, then to deal with Sony's terrible customer support.

A friend of mine bought the exact same TV and refuses to even spend the $15 extra a month for HD cable let alone anything else. He whines to everyone not to buy an LCD due to the poor sound and picture. Then he gets insulted when I tell him if he didn't want to spend the money to use it correctly he should have went to a discount store and bought a $200 TV instead.

And the trademarked term "Xross Menu Bar" is something for the birds. All that is really denoted by this is a menu driven display for parameter setting with three headers and three drop-down menus under each header. In computer pc software, this idea goes back almost to the inception of the IBM PC in the early 80's, but apparently, Sony thinks the concept is something new.

Not only does it handle HD signals great, but non-HD stuff looks nice as well. This was a huge problem with early HD sets, where normal broadcasts looked terrible, and not even just by comparison with HD. I'm not sure what three letter acronym can be attributed to that feature, but it's good to have it, because right now there really aren't that many HD stations.

Purchased Sony KDL-40V3000 last month from Best Buy. Got it home and the controls on the top of the set would not work. Sony advised to return it.

The built-in speakers are junk - maybe they want you to buy a so-called "home theater" sound system to get decent sound quality. I would if only I had room for one. Secondly, the manual should be rewritten in understandable English.

Controls work fine however it seems as though the remote has to be pointed almost directly at the sensor on the set to operate. Now Sony says its a warranty issue. This has not been a good experience.

You really need to have an HD signal to appreciate the picture, however; viewing non-HD channels after watching HD channels is really disappointing. I don't have an HD DVD player, but regular DVD's look just fine on it. It seems that the signal is better using the component inputs rather than the HDMI input, but that might be because I bought a cheap HDMI cable.

Whether its when the camera is panning, or just when objects on the screen are moving, all of the detail is lost in a blur. It looks like the screen doesn't refresh fast enough. Brighter outdoor scenes perform much better, but in the long run, I wish that I'd waited another year or so to dip into HDTV as things like this just haven't been worked out yet unless you go with a DLP TV instead of LCD, which is still a bit too new for me to spend money on either..

Last but not least - 10 days after I bought the TV I saw Vann's advertise it for $130.00 cheaper. I called and used the 15 day price guarantee and they refunded my card the next day - no questions asked. I actually think they may have made a mistake because the next day I checked and they had actually raised the price back up to more than what I had originally paid.

I checked all the channels - the normal channels were ok and the HD channels looked really good. I tried to watch some dark and action movies (Mission Impossible 3) to see how it performs - I was slightly disappointed since I was finding it hard to watch the movie. Then I tried the game mode in the TV and it looked better but I was not completely satisfied.

This week I took delivery of a KDL-40V3000, to my disappointment the tv was badly damaged, the screen had a football shaped set of cracks from the bottom to 4 to 6 inches up. The damage was not apparent until the tv was actually turned on.

I placed the order with Amazon on Saturday 5th and it was shipped on Monday 7th. I was told it would arrive on the 16th but it arrived this morning on the 9th....seven days earlier than anticipated! It came by Eagle USA carrier and the young man who brought it called early in the morning and told me the exact time he would be there.

Called store, called Sony, I haven't recieved a very satisfying response what could have caused it. I don't think it was a physical damage. I am still awaiting a visit from Sony Tech to give me the reason for this damage which I suspect is due to temperature causing outer panel brittle polymer to crack due to induced stresses.

When we first hooked it up to our SD Directv dish the picture was a little fuzzy, found out that the RF type cable I was using between the TV and DTV box was junk.

V.'s comparing apples with apples and I am so so glad I finally purchased the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 The picture qouality is excellent, great contrast, great color across the whole color spectrum. I mounted on the wall using the Peerless mount that was very easy to install only took me about one hour to be finished and viewing. I am hooked up to the dish network and every thing is just super couldn't ask for more except,I wish I had got the larger screen, you know what they say big is better but none the less I am so very very pleased and now and am a viewing junkie.

It makes old VHS tapes and standard DVD's look much better than they ever looked before. Picture is great, sound is good, unit looks sharp, setup quick and easy, price was right. Except for the minor shipping foible I amd very pleased with my purchase experience up to this point.

As far as television programming goes the HD channels are stunning and even standard definition programming looks great. Blu-Ray DVDs look incredible, and even my regular DVDs look great. When used to play video games this TV is awesome.

I purchased this set over the Thanksgiving weekend when Amazon was running a special sale - temporary price drop, free "white glove shipping." The TV is great. HD reception, even over the air from an antenna, is so much better than standard TV, that most of the time I watch broadcast television (from an antenna) rather than standard definition from cable. As of the February issue of Consumer Reports, this is rated the #2 40 inch LCD, #1 being a Samsung that is cheaper.

The remote is simple and feels nice in the hand, and the Xross Media Bar (the menu system) is just another one of those things that make this set so great. You'll cringe if you ever have to use another "green block text" OSD again. The picture is, of course, superb...

I'm very happy with this TV and with the Amazon.com delivery service. I got a great price with great service, and this TV looks fantastic. Don't be like your friend who bought the biggest TV he could afford and hooked it up with composite cables.

After researching several TV's, I determined the Sony Bravia KDL 40V3000 to be the best quality for the price. I won't go into all the details of this TV, as so many others have done a great job at that, but I will say that the picture on this TV is awesome. I still am amazed at how crisp and clear the HD channels are, even though I'm running the line to the cable box with component cables instead of HDMI.

It's so sharp and clear its awesome! I will be getting a PS3 soon to watch BLu-rays. I'm sure the clearity will the beast!
9 months ago @ Amazon
That is all I can say. I have a PS3 and I must say this TV coupled with that makes an awesome setup. 1080p is just amazing!
10 months ago @ Amazon
It has the best picture of all the others in my opinion. It was easy to set up and their on-screen menu is great. The upconverting feature of the Bravia engine is much better than the JVC model.

COD4 is awesome as well on this TV. All I can say is BUY BUY BUY! This tv kicks butt!

I knew that 1080p was the way to go, so that helped a little, but by comparing the different sony models side by side at a local store, I found that this model was the second best in the lineup. Just a notch below the XBR this television gives a great quality picture and tons of features.

I looked at four different models in a store before I ordered this one, and this model had by far the best picture when viewing from a side angle; I find the side angle viewing to be impressive now that it is in my home. The built-in speakers give excellent sound and volume. I now have two of these TV's in my house and am quite happy with them.

I'd looked at hundreds of TVs prior to deciding on the 40V3000 model, including other Sony models. This model has all the advanced features I wanted, and at a price I could live with. Though more expensive than many other brands, I love the quality and features.

I think that Sony has the best flat screen picture, true colors, excellent picture, Has HDMI hook ups, I have a plasma, LCD,Projection models, and I feel that this set gives me the best picture quality.

Excellent color reproduction and contrast levels!! Earlier I had read about the LCD technology and was a bit apprehensive to have to deal with the so-called "trailer" effect phenomenon produced by fast-moving images on LCD TV screens. To reduce the effect, for twice the price you can purchase a TV with 120 Hz frame rate (this one has modest 60 Hz).

But I must say this set up went without a hitch. I now can play the tv sound thru my JVC (NON-HDMI) receiver. The picture is great.

Eagle delivery was fantastic, they called, worked around my schedule, and set up the TV and made sure everything was to my satisfaction. As to the set, I couldn't be more pleased.
12 months ago @ Amazon
The TV arrived much earlier than the expected date of delivery and the company was on time and professional. I have to say I didn't have the delivery guy set up the TV because I wasn't home, (wife accepted delivery) and I'm a little crazy when it comes to my electronics.
