How it sucks

I have my suspicions and theories; I'm not sure Nintendo intended on having him in this game at all. That's not to say they favored their own characters; Snake got a very good part in the plot, and if I didn't know any better I would have almost guessed he was a Nintendo character. It's almost screaming to me, however, that they planned the story around the other characters; maybe Yuji Naka balked about letting Nintendo have him at first, or maybe the Nintendo company were late in figuring out what the public wanted, but I'm unable to verify whether or not these claims could be true.

This was the reason why melee was so popular. Many reviews complain about how Brawl is the "more of the same," and "without any innovation." I did not find that to be the case. It is true that everything that made Melee great has returned, such as special attacks and chargeable smash attacks, but with the new characters and modifications to returning fighters, any old strategy must be at least modified to keep them effective.

1) online is terrible, i knew this was not going to end good cause its nintendo, they dont know how to make good online games. 2) online is going to start to be charged...this came from the president of nintendo. this is probably not going to be as much as xbox but still feels terrible

Matches are locked at 2 minutes; no other option is available. Honestly, considering the waiting you'll be doing, the terrible lag once you finally start, the constant fear of a disconnect, and the lack of options, playing against "Anyone" is just flat out not worth it. The "Friend" option, however, allows you to fully customize your match as you would normally, the lag is hardly noticeable (assuming your friends are in the same state), and you can preset a few phrases of dialogue (bound to the D-pad) to use throughout the fight.

They have pulled a Microsoft, releasing defective hardware, to an unknowing public. The lasers in the original Wii's are defective and too weak to read their first release of a dual layered disc. You would have thought Nintendo could have tested this out before they released their most anticipated release.

The bad: 1) Subspace emissary stinks. I had high hopes for this after hearing the hype, but it is vastly inferior to the adventure mode in "Melee".

Some people are experiencing a disc reading error due to dirty Wii lens and Nintendo is offering to repair the systems for free regardless of the warranty. It might delay your enjoyment of Brawl, but at least Nintendo is nice about it.

Additionally, you are more limited with modes and maps than with single player, and the netcode (the portion of the game code that connects you to the internet and other players) is so poorly written that Nintendo had to put this right in the instruction booklet: "It is normal for the game to periodically freeze while playing online." Brawl is a more basic game than, say, Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4, both of which are consistently lag free, but Brawl is just plagued with lag. So much so that with most of your friends the game will be unplayable online. I wasn't expecting much from this game online, but it delivered even less than I expected.

Once someone wins, I don't know why or how, other than maybe that player fell off the platforms the least. Maybe it's me, but I don't get it. That may be the worst game I've ever bought for my many different platforms.

A note on the online feature: it's fine when you play against registered friends, but terrible with the "Anyone" option. It can take 5-10 minutes before other players queue up, and the lag is so bad the game becomes unplayable. Disconnects are frequent, regardless of the strength of your connection (oddly enough, this only seems to be a problem when playing against "Anyone" instead of "Friends").

The characters simply do not control as fluidly as they should for a fighting game. For a console whose innovative controls is the main selling point, this is a disappointment. I hate not being able to use the remote's pointer during the menu screens, instead it's like using that annoying little button between the "G" and the "H" keys on your laptop!

Cue Brawl. Huge, several-hour-long single player campaign is here along with the return of "Classic" mode where you go pick a character and fight several battles one after another. The Stadium matches with Target Test and Multi-Man Melee have returned with an additional "Boss Battle" mode unlockable after beating the main Adventure Mode, the Subspace Emissary.

It's probably the worst Nintendo WiFi connection enabled game to date. Also missing is any sort of leaderboard feature, or a way to compare your scores to other gamers across the world (A feature which Microsoft and Sony REQUIRE every game to have on their systems). Now I know many Nintendo fans don't care about online, which is why I broke this section into two subsections, but for me this is really a huge turn off because I had planned to get a decent amount of play-time out of the online play.

Wi-Fi: I guess it is because the game just came out yesterday, so I can hardly find someone to play online with. There is no voice chat, or message system, so if you find someone who you are compatible with online, you wish you can talk to that person, or message him to hope to add him to your friend list, but unfortunately, you really can't do that yet. This bothers me so much when I was playing Medal of honor heroes 2 online.

The returning Veteran fighters have been re-vamped with a graphical update and some move changes. Most of these changes are for the better, a few are for the worse (Mario gets severely de-powered with the loss of his on the ground spin in favor of his Mario Sunshine Water Launcher), and the presentation of the game overall is very clean and well executed. For added value we are given The Subspace Emmissary.

Save yourself $50. It reminds me a lot of the Madden franchise - slight changes every year, a little something new, but really not worth upgrading every single year. I'm thinking of trying to sell or trade my copy, too - total waste of money.

All this time and delays they couldn't make a decent online system. The character choice in Brawl is very disappointing. Very few of the newly introduced characters were decent(Ike, Meta Knight, Sonic), and a lot of the old characters were ruined(Ganondorf especially).

You could have a game that has billions of game modes or characters, it all goes down the drain if the game concept and feel is dull or frustrating. The one problem I had with this game only applies to those who are hardcore smashers. It's that the gameplay becomes almost too familiar.

I bought it thinking it was going to be as good as Super Mario Galaxy, but it's ridiculous. It's for seven year old boys. The game play is monotonous and confusing.
9 months ago @ Amazon
if you knock out the two characters on the screen at once you'll have to wait about 5 seconds for the next one to show up because the disc is so painfully slow. Just trying to start a match you can hear it. The worst is playing adventure mode.

This game is amazing, the graphics are best on the Wii, the gameplay is simply amazing, and the music is just excellent. this game is huge and has a large replay value with lots of unlockables, and a very fun 2-player mode. I highly reccomend this game to any Wii owner.

All in all, Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a must buy for anyone who owns the Nintendo Wii. It is just great from start to finish and brings in every depth of excitment and gameplay for a super smash for anyone who has the need to smash the competition. It is definitely a great game all around and a great addition to your Wii video game library.

The music here is some of the best to grace the gaming world. Nintendo got some of the most famous composers in the industry to contribute music and the soundtrack doesn't disappoint. Is Brawl perfect?
10 months ago @ Amazon
Like every Smash Bros game, its true magic is that ANYONE can play it- someone entirely new to gaming can pick up a controller, button mash, and have a great time even when playing with experts. The replayability is simply amazing, and rare in a time when most new games focus on being the prettiest thing out there instead of the most fun. Pick it up, play with friends, and just enjoy the game!

Gameplay 5/5 Controls 5/5 -you can use a remote, a remote and a nunchuk, or a gc controller, or a classic controller, whatever is best for you
10 months ago @ Amazon
With four control schemes, you can pick whichever one feels the most natural. You can choose from the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Wii Remote held sideways, the Classic Controller, and the Gamecube Controller. I'm also extremely glad they didn't use all the motion capabilities of the Wii Remote.

It wont disappoint melee veterans who were skeptical on the new game play; and it definitely won't disappoint newcomers. The character roster is amazing and diverse. There is a character fitting every type of skill someone could want.

This game is one of the best Wii games out there and an absolute must buy, it's full of customizable options has great online features and will keep everybody occupied for months or even years.

It's that addictive! This is, without a doubt, the best game right now to own on the Wii. Pick it up (if you can find it.) You won't regret it.

Brawl also looks and sounds incredible. The graphics being the best the Wii has yet. The stages themselves look absolutely incredible.

Brawl online or offline, this is one of the most fun video games you will play on the Wii, or possibly any other system to boot. Four-player mode is where the game really shines, as things just get even crazier. Not to mention that you can also share game replays, screenshots, and even customized levels with others, which is a great little bonus feature in itself.

The creator of Brawl, Masahiro Sakurai, clearly put a lot of thoughts into the game and improved on every aspect of Melee and made it into a unique game. All in all, Brawl lives up to every bit of the hype and it is the best entry in the series so far. With so much stuff crammed into a single disc, the game is worth every penny of its price and it will outlast many 360 and PS3 games.

To win a Brawl you must knock your opponet out of the various well detailed levels. It sounds simple but there are so many way to get the job done everyone will have there own unique strategy of doing things which really makes the game fun to play with three other players. Brawl really hits it home with it's Huge roster! Not everyone is here.

Even if you're not a big fighting game fan, Super Smash Bros Brawl is excellent. Playing local multiplayer with your friends or family is an absolute blast. You can create a profile name for everyone and the game will keep track of all your stats like KO's, favorite character, etc.

The attention is evident in every phase of the game, from the delightfully detailed main characters to the excellent backdrops. This is a joy to behold. 2) The mechanics you know and love are back, which makes for some excellent multiplayer madness.

People bought Wii's to play this game, most people, in fact. This is the best game on the Wii, tied with Super Mario Galaxy, and if you have a Wii, and don't own this game, you probably don't know much about Nintendo's history. Trust the fact that no reviewer has given this game below a 9/10, and don't trust the fanboy reviews on this website.

All I can say is this is a great game. Just finished playing for almost 8 hours.

The sound track of Brawl is probably one of the best in the history of video game. It includes original sound track as well as remakes of many of the classics. With over 150 different songs, all beautifully orchestrated, you will never be bored when you're fighting.

The collective hums and oooo's can be heard loud and clear from the beautifully orchestrated music. With over +100 songs to choose from...this selection of music far exceeds any other fighting game soundtrack to date.

Other options include the Classic game (you beat `em you advance) or a storyplay campaign which is surprisingly worthwhile. The variety of Brawl locations and is amazingly broad as are the detailing of each location gimmicks.
