Perhaps that thumbsticking was annoying you as much as it annoyed me and kept you from wanting to. $20 isn't too terrible to make messaging easier.

There aren't any exotic keys like you would find on a fancy usb keyboard but that's good, it keeps the face of the board simple: numbers on the top row; letters on the second row; letters on the third row with a comma to the far right; letters on the fourth row with a shift key on the left and the enter key on the right; backspace, left and right movement, chat and two "modifier" keys called AMBER and GREEN.

Sitting 3 feet from your console is so 1985. The Chatpad takes care of that mess quite nicely with satisfyingly clicky key action and fairly accurate recognition on screen. One thing I did have to get used to is that you do not hear a tone when typing in the first capitalised letter in a sentence or word.

The USB ports can support your average USB keyboard that will do much the same function. I'd honestly save yourself some money and pick yourself up a cheap USB keyboard instead.

The weight is non-zero. at first it isn't noticable, but after 30+ minutes my armes started to tire sooner. I used to keep it plugged in all the time but my arms get tired, so I only plug it when i need it, then i unplug it.

I've been the victim of having to do this up to 4 times in a row, hunting for letters and twitching the thumbstick to enter the characters; what a pain! Hi All, Well I've had the chatpad for almost a month now and I was a little afraid when I first got it, but once you get use to it you can't live without it! especially if you want to send a friend some or other quick swear word or joke and then hear them cracking up on the other side(hehehe) but all-in-all this is a very much appreciated "toy" (so much so that a couple of buddies of mine went out and got themselves one too).

It comes with a headset (which costs $15-20 individually) and the keypad (which would only come to be about $5-$10). I really enjoy, so if you think you are going to be sending plenty of messages and chatting on messenger, then this is a must have.

But with the touch of a button you can go to chat and pick a buddy, hence "CHAT PAD". I still feel that it's missing something I can't place, otherwise, you got to get this unit, I highly recommend it.

Really, the only thing I'd like to see by way of new developments for this product is a black version to match my Elite controllers. Black and white might be fashionable in other arenas, but somehow it just doesn't work in this case.

If you find yourself typing a lot it's a must buy, otherwise you are better off spending the money elsewhere.

Since this was about 10$ extra to get "with" the headset, I just went for it. At first it just seemed like added weight and bulkiness but I got used to it pretty quick. I use my MSN messenger through XBOX live, and with this I end up IM'ing with my friends when I am waiting in lobby for a game to start.

NOW for the main reason I really got excited for this accessory, which is the following: I heard that in the long run designers can utilize this for their games.

Entering text using the onscreen keyboard is a chore, but not with this accessory.

The keys lightings up is a nice touch. Taking the thing on and off takes some getting used to. Trying to play COD4 with it on is rather bothersome.
